Boca Raton Bowl Recap

It’s hard to believe that the Inaugural Boca Raton Bowl was already 8 months ago, but planning for the second annual Bowl game is already well underway. The Boca Bowl, a Division I NCAA football bowl game between Conference USA and Mid Atlantic Conference, took place on Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2014, at Florida Atlantic University Stadium in Boca Raton. It was the first event of its kind in Palm Beach County, and the game between Marshall and Northern Illinois was aired live nationally on ESPN to more than 2,248,000 viewers. Game day featured tailgating festivities for fans and their families, while Bowl Week preceding the event included community-wide events.
The Spirit of Giving Network—a collaborative, nonprofit organization with a focus on children and families in Palm Beach County—is the official charity partner of this nationally televised collegiate game. Boca Raton Bowl raised $25,000 to benefit more than 60 nonprofit member organizations. The Spirit of Giving Network provided event volunteers as well as tickets, food and pre-game activities to 5,500 disadvantaged youth and families in the community. Organizers nearly filled FAU Stadium to capacity for a truly festive atmosphere and maximum charity benefit.
“Thanks to the huge success of the inaugural Boca Raton Bowl, we’re thrilled to announce that the game will return again in 2015,” says Wendy Friswell, Executive Director of The Spirit of Giving Network. “We once again look forward to showing the nation and the world the philanthropic spirit of Boca Raton through this eventful week of community-wide activities, all for a good case.”
Events for Boca Raton Bowl and Bowl Week included Team Welcome Events, Beach Party, Hospital Visits, Teams Families Events, Kickoff Luncheon and Pep Rally. The official Game Day comprised Fan Fest; Team Walk; tailgating festivities, including a children’s tent, a VIP tent and live entertainment; and the Legends Award Ceremony at half-time honoring sports legends of Palm Beach County, including Howard Schnellenberger. This year’s Boca Raton Bowl is Tuesday, December 22nd, 2015 at FAU Stadium. Spirit Week events as well as pre-event fundraisers are to-be-announced.
